Outreach

The Cometbots' mission is to get everyone excited about science, technology, engineering, and math. We put on presentations and demos to get people of all ages inspired!

2019 - 2020 Outreach

  • Freshman Orientation (August 2019) The Cometbots had a table set up during the orientation event for the incoming freshman class of Halifax County High School.
  • Back to School Expo (August 2019) The Cometbots participated in the first and second annual Back 2 School Expo for Halifax County Public Schools. This event is open to all students to receive free school supplies. The Cometbots showed off our competition robot and also had a practice bot that other students were able to drive.
  • Harvest Festival (September 2019) We let members of the community drive one of our robots.
  • Kickoff event (January 2020) We are hosting a community event to give a tour of our shop and watch the revealing of this year's challenge live on twitch.

2018 - 2019 Outreach

    • Back 2 School Expo (August 2018)
    • DKG meeting (October 2018) The Delta Kappa Gamma society is comprised of former and current female educators. They were impressed by our presenters and expressed a lot of interest in our team.
    • Night of Innovation (January 2019) A portion of our team went to our middle school and set up a demonstration of our previous season’s robot. We also brought several smaller robots for the children to drive around, so they could see what robotics is from a hands on point of view.
    • Career and Technical Education Expo (February 2019) We demonstrate robots and try to get other high school students interested in career and technology education.
    • End of Year Bash (June 2019) The school system held a year-ending party for all of the students in Halifax County. The Cometbots provided robot demonstrations, a trivia game, and a stomp rocket crafting activity.

2017 - 2018 Outreach

    • Heritage Festival (May 2017) We demonstrated a robot that was able to pick up and throw a ball. Our team made a photo booth to give out souvenir pictures in exchange for a small donation.
    • Harvest Festival (September 30, 2017) Members of the Robotics team explained how to drive the robot and taught others how to steer. Children were given "Robot Driver's Licenses" for completing a task of driving the robot through an obstacle course created by our members. Children and adults in our community enjoyed learning about our robot and program.
    • Middle School visit (November 21, 2017) We visited the middle school Smart Lab and Lego Robotics classes on Tuesday, November 21st, 2017. Emmanuel, Nicholas, Armiche, and Gabby gave a presentation on our team and FIRST. Students also had a chance to drive one of our robots. (pictures below)
    • Touch a Truck (April 2018): about 100 people attended this event, watched our robot demonstration and even drove our practice robot.
    • Cub Scout meeting (April 2018): We spoke to one of our local Cub Scout Troops about safety and our season's robot, and allowed them to drive our mecanum robot.
    • Strawberry Fest (May 2018): As an annual event, during the start of the summer, our town puts on an event, to celebrate the harvest of fresh strawberries. We set up a booth where we answered questions about our robot, and demonstrated what we do using our 2018 competition Robot.
