Skype meeting on Day 3

Online teaching and training event

Due to the rise of Covid-19 and travel restrictions, the teaching/training activity in Finland had been previously postponed. With high hopes to travel to Oulu all countries were awaiting the news of the pandemic to end, instead, the pandemic came here to stay. Therefore, the meeting was transferred online and all the hard work our teams had done was suddenly realised in its rawest form. Oulu Community College's Minna Hukkanen organized a 5-day event to nourish the teachers' excitement of online learning.

4.-8. January 2021 brought teachers from different countries 5 days of online training and analysis of different online teaching environments and devices for engaging content creation. Introduction of learning and teaching environments took place in the first two days.

Different language groups were formed to present the best working environments of their choice. Language teachers created and introduced lessons to illustrate the use of these environments in practice. During these five days several online video conferencing tools were tried out and all teams had the opportunity to look into the pros and cons.

Minna Hukkanen challenged participants to come out of their comfort zone and try out the tools they had not used before. All in all, it was a great learning experience for everyone as teachers and learners.

Pärnu Adult Gymnasium and their international partners are developing e-learning by finding new methods to boost learners' motivation to have even more adults participating in language learning e-courses.

Pärnu Adult Gymnasium as the leading partner in collaboration with partners from the universities of Latvia and Poland, a private language school from Czech Republic and a community college from Finland are developing the project for two years. The first meeting takes place in Pärnu on November 26-27, 2018.

"Current educational system has created the opportunity where learning process does not require teachers to be in the same room with their students, instead classes can be organised via webinars with all participants taking part in different places," suggested Ulla Lehtsaar, the project leader.

Pärnu Adult Gymnasium got involved with the international project due to the two-year experience of offering e-learning courses for students. Currently there are 54 students in e-classes. The project "Teachers in the Distance" is funded under the Erasmus + programme.
