On June 6, 2022, I finally traveled from Midland, TX, to Toronto, ON. I was on cloud nine! From Midland International Air and Space Port (MAF), I flew to Denver International Airport (DEN) aboard United Airlines to meet some of my fellow Fulbrighters. Then from Denver, we flew as a group aboard Air Canada to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). I departed Midland around 6:00 A.M. and arrived in Toronto at dawn the following day. The total flight time was only about five hours, but I had to wait for my fellow Fulbrighters in Denver. I had long hours of layover in Denver that I used to explore the enormous airport. The long hours of waiting were even extended due to technical issues and bad weather that caused flight delays. Although I had visited Denver previously, it was my first time at their international airport.
Meeting with some of my cohort classmates at the airport for the first time was full of excitement. I could remember we were one solid group, completing our year-round online Fulbright course “Teaching and Leading for Global Education.” After our course, we were supposed to meet each other in person for our Global Education Symposium in Washington, DC. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the symposium was held online that year instead of face-to-face. Anyways, we learned the same information about global education that we are now willing to share with Canadian educators and the whole world.
My Day 1 ended after checking in at Chelsea Hotel Toronto. I was so fortunate and proud to have stayed at Chelsea Hotel. Although it is not as big as Las Vegas hotels, Chelsea Hotel Toronto is known as the largest hotel in Canada. The hotel is located within the Downtown Yonge area of downtown Toronto.
