Sarah

Surviving the boats, Theophilus poem

by Sarah S.

Theophilus Niger,

An enslaved man,

A survivor.

The boats were filled,

More like packed.

They were all in the same position-

They were rough,

Broken,

And beaten.

They were treated like animals,

Herded like cows,

Sold to their owners,

And tossed around.

Theophilus was brave.

He was enslaved.

A survivor.

He was

Theophilus Niger.

Sarah's Poet's Statement

I chose to write a poem because we need to realize how lucky we are that we didn't have to go through what he and others did. Being shoved into ships and then shipped across the ocean to a new place is a horrible thing to live through.
