Founded in 1950 as the Tamkang Junior College of English by Mr. Chang Ching-Sheng and his son Dr. Clement C. P. Chang, TKU was Taiwan's first private college. It became the Tamkang College of Arts and Sciences in 1958, before being elevated to Tamkang University in 1980. From its humble beginnings as one of the first schools of higher education in Taiwan, TKU now has two campuses: the Tamsui main campus and Taipei Campus. TKU is comprised of 8 colleges, with total about 24,000 students, around 2,000 faculty and staff members, and more than 280,000 alumni.
TKU offers short and long term Huayu BEST programs for TCNJ students to study in Taiwan: Fall & Spring semester exchange program and 6-weeks Summer program. As an exchange student, you have the option to take English-taught courses in TKU and transfer course credits back to TCNJ. Tamkang University Chinese Language Center also offers different levels of Mandarin courses for complete beginners to advanced level learners.
