Watching the movie is not a substitute for reading the book. Each text has a different author making different choices in a different medium. It could be interesting to see how the director, Mira Nair, adapted the book though. If you watch the movie, ask yourself to what degree did she stay true to Hamid's version, and how did she make choices with film to create meaning.
