Paper 1 is a platform that allows you to demonstrate some of the key skills developed in your English classroom, including:
The ability to interpret and analyze literary texts
The ability to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of authorial choices in the construction of meaning
The ability to make connections between multiple texts
The ability to clearly, coherently and logically present your ideas in writing
For Paper 2, students choose one of four prescribed questions and answer it by writing a comparative essay based two works studied in class. All students will have 105 minutes to complete this task. For SL students, Paper 2 will account for 35% of their grade; whereas, for HL students, this paper will make up 25% of their grade.
As discussed in the 'Using Evidence' toolkit, evidene can take the form of direct quotes or textual references in Paper 2. Read these slides to get a better understanding of how we might analyse broader choces and textual references.

Don't forget, this is exam is a closed-book assessment. This means that you have to have a strong grasp of the key aspects of the text: the methods used by the writers, the text's themes, and some of the most significant quotes.
