The Big Picture

What do we do in IB English?

Studying English is studying culture with language as a tool to explore what it means to be human. This is done by studying texts through three areas of exploration (AOEs), and connecting those texts to global issues (GIs) in an attempt to develop our understanding of the course's core concepts. Along the way, we will sit three major assessments in order to check that we have developed the attitudes, skills and content knowledge of the course.

Ultimately, in our classes, we attempt to answer the question:

How do the effects of authorial choices shape meaning in a way that impacts the text as a whole, and what is the significance of this in relation to my focus?
