Prototype Application: Timely

What is Timely?

Timely is an event application designed using Marvel that allows its users to source for and book events. It syncs users' calendars to generate suitable events that the user might prefer. It also allows users to socialise with others.

Timely also uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as facial and voice recognition for a more personalised and easy usage.

The name, Timely, was created because it is meant to help users be more "timely". This serves as a pun as well as to give our application an identity that people can remember easily .

In Timely, we have:

The technology we have incorporated can help users like our persona to learn about new technology while benefitting from the convenience of it.

Chatting

To help widen social circle and have friends to attend events with, we included a chatting platform for users to socialise. Additionally, users can block or report anyone that they may feel comfortable.

Synced Calendar

For convenience and easy accessibility, we included a calendar function that helps users like our persona to save time while staying organised despite their busy schedules as they get to see their available dates through one single platform.

Personalisation

In Timely, we have:

Curated events based on individual interests and budgets
Facial recognition sign-in
Setting chatbot nickname

The option to customise the app in accordance to individual user needs provides a sense of convenience and security and allows the users to connect more with Timely.

Social Media-like Features

Social Media-like features such as viewing others' profiles and customising their own profile. This is appealing especially in a world where social media is widely used.

Feedback:

Lacking a block feature that is important for the privacy and security of users
To encourage users to make more bookings, we should recommend similar events to users right after they have booked an event
Include a notifications page to show the types of reminders and notifications that Timely alerts its users
Add a drop-down at the search bar to show the types of filters that we have to offer
Some font sizes are too small

Reflection

Through session 10 about consolidating innovative outcomes, we have learned about disruptive innovation, which are innovations and technologies that make sophisticated products and services accessible and more affordable to a broader market for e.g. Netflix. We have also learned about sustaining innovation which is to make existing products and services better for the existing customer base and that it does not target untapped markets.

Thus, our application, Timely, is considered a disruptive innovation compared to other event applications that only offer to book events. Timely involves many other features that enables technology and an innovative business model.

Next, from our group activity on how to challenge culture. We concluded that customers will always be right in their minds, but not in reality. However, businesses are forced to have this mindset as if there is no customer service-oriented mindset, innovation will not be successful. Additionally, innovation can only happen when businesses hear from their customers. This session helped us to understand better and improve our application, Timely.

Timely was created with Georgina in mind and with the help of many tutorial activities on what features we can include to improve users' experience and stay appealing to our target market (Gen Zs). Thus, there were many features incorporating technology such as Artificial Intelligence, GDPR standards, and Data security.

We also included social media integration, chat functions, search features, and saving of credit/debit card details. These features help protect users' information and allow a more convenient, enjoyable, and personalised app experience as users can include their reviews and photos of events they have attended, sync their personal calendars, and chat with other users with similar interests.
