The Virtual Computer build assignment was for students to understand the essential hardware component of a computer after reading through the content module. Students were to access an online site that guided them in building their computer. The site provided all the components students needed to research and add to a document. Since there was a variety of each component, students were able to choose their piece according to the type of computer they were building. Once students chose all of their 12 components, they were to list the cost of each item and the total of the computer itself.
After completing this assignment as someone who has never expressed interest in the breakdown of computers, I learned a lot. Before doing to the assignment, I have never quite known much about what goes into a computer besides a motherboard, a monitor, and the mouse and keyboard. Now I know that there are at LEAST 12 essential things that are needed for a computer. Besides just the components, I have gained an understanding of what each component does. Such as something like the RAM, which stands for "Random Access Memory". This component is a temporary memory bank where data is stored to be retrieved quickly. Overall, this assignment did its job and gave me a great amount of Insite on computers that I didn't know before.
