Through out this course I have completed assignments and SIM paths that teach me, guide me , and test me on new skills I've learned. On this page I broke it down for you.
I learned that I could create a signature in my email that automatically attaches to all emails I send out or reply to. This new skill also applies to adding automatic reply when for example I may be out of town and not be able to answer the emails right away
During this SIMpath, I demonstrated that I knew most things about Outlook.
This was another concept I thought I knew a bit about. However, one thing I had learned was that a way to narrow down a search is by using a subtraction symbol. Or even using quotation marks when looking for specific phrases or words.
This SIMpath pretest I completed with 100% and demonstated that i had known that material
I hadn't realized before this module, how often we use databases in our everyday lives. This I feel as thought shouldn't have been such a surprise to me. Through this module I also got a better understand of the relationship Data, information, knowledge, and wisdom have. This is another piece of information we use very frequently.
In this module I learned what a digital bubble and realized how easy it is to get stuck in that digital bubble. For example, when you only like things you find interest in and nothing else gets you stuck in a digital bubble.
I also was able to identify the seven components of digital literacy: Identity and wellbeing, discovery, evaluation, ethics, creation and scholarship, communication and collaboration, and curation.
In this module I learned the distinctive difference between malware, phishing, and ransomware. As well as being able to identify what social engineering is as a whole.
Ways I learned to protect myself from these situations is to delete unused apps and remove all access to social sites. As well as using a VPN to protect my phone while in use.
In this module I learned about the difference between the two types of media and their components.
I am able to identify the 5 types of digital media: audio, video, graphic, animation, and text. I also learned which each type's file extension is.
Within this module, I had a good idea of what we were learning but I was able to get a deeper understanding of plagiarism, copyright, and AUP. As far as copyright, I learned about Creative Commons and what it's used for.
For this module, I knew technology was always changing. However, I didn't realize how rapidly. And without these rapid changes, we wouldn't see all the amazing advancement we see today. Things like AI!
To conclude my technical skills I've learned in this course, I will say it's different than any other class I've chosen to take. Reason being that I got to learn things about technology I use every day. This could be the most useful skills I've learned in a class. I've learned that I can add a signature file to my emails, narrow my internet searches by using symbols, understand the relationships in databases, and how I use them everyday. I learned about cybersecurity/ cyberattacks and how to protect my techology against those situations. And lastly, I learned the rights and legalities of using other people's digital media. This class has been the most beneficial to my technology usage and selfwareness.
