Experiencing Japanese art "Koudou (Way of Fragrance)"

Mr. Tanaka Masayuki who is a board chairman of Japanese NPO "Sozai TankenTai" visited our school and taught our high school students about Koudou. Koudou is one of Japan's three major classical performing arts. The other two are ikebana and tea ceremony. Koudou ("Way of Fragrance") is the art of enjoying fragrance. It is the art of appreciating Japanese incense, and is also enjoyed by playing games such as guessing what kind of incense it is. Japanese people have been enjoying kodo since the Heian period (794-1192). It has a very long history. Currently, there are only about 1,000 people practicing Kodo in Japan. This time, we experienced Kodo with students from the first to the third grade of junior high school.

Experiencing Japanese Flower Arrangement "Ikebana"

Mr. Tanaka Masayuki who is a board chairman of Japanese NPO "Sozai TankenTai" visited our school and taught our high school students how to make flower arrangement called "Ikebana". We learned the difference between Western flour arrangement and Japanese flower arrangement. Japanese flower arrangement is simpler than Western one and has many meanings in it. My Thai students tried to arrange flowers in the Japanese way. Some look really Japanese one, but some looks more Western one. Our students had a great experience knowing and doing Japanese flower arrangement “Ikebana”.

Everyone communicated in Japanese or English languages and had many activities to exchange culture to know each other. All Japanese students had an experience of home staying at Thai students' house. They spent time together their host family for 4 days. When we had a farewell party, many of Japanese and Thai students and host family members cried each and hugged each other. I felt really happy to see many people having a great experience!

Experiencing Japanese Tea Ceremony "Sado"

Mr. Tanaka Masayuki who is a board chairmana of Japanese NPO "Sozai TankenTai" visited our school and taught our Junior high school students how to have Japanese traditional tea ceremony called "Sado". Sado is one of the Japanese ways to show their  hospitality to guests. It is held in a special occasion for them. And when they have Japanese green tea in a tea ceremony, they have sweets with it together because it tastes very bitter. So some Thai students could not finish Japanese green tea because it was too bitter for them. But I believe that our students had good experience having Japanese green tea and it was very good to know how Japanese people show their hospitality to others.
