Dr. Sybille Bauer-Zierfuß, MA
(she/her & they/them) is a visual artist, media theorist, and philosopher. Their research lies at the intersection of media studies, critical autism studies, disability studies, and feminist epistemology. In their doctoral research, they examined how some media portrayals of autism (re)produce epistemic injustice and intersectional forms of oppression. Bauer-Zierfuß regularly conducts workshops, lectures and talks.
Drawing on a complex family history, their visual art frequently employs intimate materials, such as their late father’s illness diary, family recordings, and religious texts, to explore (queer) identity, autism, structural and sexualised violence, (auto)biography, death, illness, and grief. Their artistic work has been exhibited and screened nationally and internationally.
