Table of Contents - Flight & Combat Formations & Commands

These are the list of a few basic formations along with their proper commands, While near impossible to do with random players and much easier to preform over VC (Voice Chat) and with lots of practice, They typically aren't too helpful for combat. While yes, There will be some time in combat these are perfect for (Mostly the start before engagement), Due to the constant and very quickly changing of pace, distance, etc of battle, trying to rigidly stick to formation actually can do lots of damage. That being said, Practicing formations is a good way to get used to a ship, your teammates (Typically squadron members in this case) and a good way to form discipline.

VIC/Inverted VIC: VIC and Inverted VIC are some of the most basic, Your Squadron/Wing Commander will be in the middle at the front or rear depending on if it is an Inverted VIC. The VIC formations however will put you in a “V” shaped formation.

Battle Spread: Battle Spread will put you into a sort of “wall” formation with your Flight Commander at the far left. You should all be lined up.

Trail: Trail formation will put you into a line directly behind your Flight Commander at the very front. Your goal is to maintain the line and trail the person in front of you. Note: Keep at least a full ships distance between each other in case quick maneuvering/breaking is needed.

Right and Left Echelon: Echelon will put you in a diagonal line from your Flight Commander, About half a ship-full ship behind them with your left/right wing lining up with their left/right wing as seen below.

Wedge: Wedge is a formation where the flight commander will be in the front, One pilot will be half-one ship behind them to their left, And two more will be in a mirroring formation two ships behind them.

Two Ship Wedge: The Two Ship Wedge is the same as the Wedge except the flight commander will have one ship to their right about a ships length to their right and behind.

Four-Wall: The Four Wall formation has the flight commander at the front, A pilot directly behind them one ships length behind them, And two pilots to the right doing the game half a ships length behind

Four Finger: The Four Finger formation is the same as the VIC Formation except there is only one pilot to the flight commanders left, with two being to their right.

Fluid Six: The Fluid Six formation is similar to the Battle Spread formation except it is in two ranks and the flight commander is in the middle about half a ship ahead of the other pilots.

Box: Box Formation will have the flight commander in the front left, With a pilot to their right. Two other pilots will be directly behind the two about a full ships length behind.

Off-set Box: Off-set Box is the same as the Box Formation except the two pilots in the rear will be half a ship to their right making them off-set from the two at the front.

Arrow Head: The Arrow Head formation has the flight commander in the front, With a pilot to their left about a ship behind. Behind these two about two ships behind the one to the left, Will be two more pilots a ship or two apart lined up with each other.

Diamond: Diamond Formation will have the flight commander in the front middle, With a pilot on their left and right a ship behind, and a pilot two ships length directly behind the flight commander as seen below.

Two-Ship Abreast: The Two-Ship Abreast formation will have two ships with the flight commander being on the left lined up about two ships length apart from each other.
