The Lake Houses were were the well-to-do went after a day at the races. They featured top-level entertainment, and most importantly, illegal gambling in the back rooms. Riley's Lake House is pictured on the left.

Sand Lake, New York. Site of multiple nationally-renown big band appearances. Saturday mornings featured a live, nationwide musical broadcast over the NBC network.
