Rider grew up on Madison Avenue in Albany. He formed a band composed primarily of college kids, as a means to pay for his education at Albany Teacher's College (UAlbany). He went on to medical school and entered the army in 1941. After the war, he practiced pediatric medicine in Albany, while still playing some gigs.
The Orchestra played a variety of venues, but they made frequent appearances at local colleges. Scroll down for some images of the band.
