If you missed or want to review our orientation from 2/4/21, you can watch the zoom recording HERE.
New student hires must complete the SHEP process, which can be accomplished online. The TB clearance is waived for this semester only.
If you have previously completed CCSF’s student hiring process, you can skip step #2 below (SHEP process) and complete the re-hiring instructions instead.
If you are eligible for federal work study, please inform Adele so that she can hire you as a WS assistant worker instead of a lab aide.
1. Complete SHEP process
If you have not been previously hired on campus and plan to work for pay, you must complete the SHEP process, which has several parts. You cannot start doing presentations until you have completed it, and it takes a bit of time. The good news is that once you’ve done it, you don’t have to do it again for future semesters!
Visit CCSF’s Student Employment page: www.ccsf.edu/SHEP. Most of the items can be completed in Web4/MyRam. The final steps (payroll, I-9, etc) must be completed through the Student Employment office’s virtual zoom counter. Please note that Adele has already submitted an employment offer letter on your behalf. International students will need to request the employment verification HERE.
Please note that if you are unable to work in the U.S., Project SURVIVE has some scholarships available to pay undocumented peer educators who sign up to work as volunteers.
2. Submit this semester's schedule
Once you have enrolled in classes, please use this link to fill out your Fall schedule. You can submit an update if your schedule changes later on.
3. Confirm your contact information and save the peer educator roster
You can use this link to access the peer educator roster. Please confirm that your name, pronoun, and contact information is fully filled out correct and edit if necessary. Then, you can save/download the document so you can contact your fellow peer educators before presentations.
4. Review the orientation documents and content on the Peer Educator portal
We typically host in-person orientations. Given the circumstances, I am asking new peer educators to please review the content on the peer portal (peer educator website) and the orientation documents. You must login to see the website and documents. If you use a different google ID than the one I have added for you (I used what is listed in the peer roster), please let me know and I will add your preferred email.
Please save the link for the peer portal: https://sites.google.com/view/survivepeerportal
If you have previously completed CCSF’s student hiring process, you can skip step #2 below (SHEP process) and complete the “re-hiring instructions” instead.
If you are eligible for federal work study, please inform Adele so that she can hire you as a FWS worker instead of a lab aide.
1. Register for 6+ units:
In order to be hired as a student worker, you must carry six or more units. If you have concerns about being able to stay enrolled in six units, please speak with Adele. She can give course suggestions, help you connect you with a counselor, Anastasia (afiandac@ccsf.edu), or discuss the possibility of enrolling in Social Justice Work Experience credit (IDST 300, taught by Maggie Harrison) to help meet the minimum units.
2. Complete SHEP process or fill out a volunteer form
If you have not been previously hired on campus and plan to work for PS for pay, you must complete the SHEP process, which has several steps. You cannot start doing presentations until you have completed it, and it takes a bit of time. The good news is that once you’ve done it, you don’t have to do it again for future semesters!
Visit CCSF’s student employment handbook and details on the SHEP process. Please note there are a couple of items that can take a few weeks, so start early! The most time-consuming pieces of the hiring process are:
a. TB test: you can get this in the student health center on Phelan Ave. It requires you to go in twice.
b. Completing payroll forms so you can be paid by direct deposit
c. I-9 form: Bring in your social security card and ID card to the Student Employment Office in Cloud Hall room 330.
Adele will give you the employment offer letter at the beginning of the semester. Remember to inform Adele when you are all finished with the hiring process!
If you will not be working for pay and still want to volunteer (i.e. you don’t plan to enroll in six units, but still want to do presentations), we will need a volunteer form from you. You can download, print, and sign that form here before turning it in to Adele. Leave the “dates and times” section blank for Adele to fill out. Let Adele know if you prefer for her to mail you a copy of the form, or you can pick it up from Cloud 402. Peer educators who are completing the hiring process right away do not need to fill out a volunteer form.
Please note that if you are ineligible to work in the U.S., Project SURVIVE has some scholarships available to pay undocumented peer educators who sign up to work as volunteers.
3. Submit your schedule

Please email Adele (afailes@ccsf.edu) to inform her what date you will be attending.
6. Keep Practicing and Stay in Touch!
Continue studying script and script tips + training video. You can view the video here. You can now also visit our Peer Educator portal at https://sites.google.com/view/survivepeerportal to view this information and other resources.
You can also keep up with other peer educators by joining our SLACK thread to keep up with other peer educators, ask questions, share announcements, etc. You can join via this link, which will be active until September 5th.
7. Advocate for the PS Community and Against Class Cuts!
As you may know, CCSF admin are threatening aggressive class cuts, which could include WGST and Ethnics Studies and Social Justice courses! There are several ways you can help.
a. Make a video about why you are part of the Project SURVIVE Community. Videos should be under two minutes. You can answer things like: “I am a part of the Project SURVIVE community because…” or “A thing I will always remember from taking WGST 54/55 is…”
b. Spread the word to your networks and communities about these courses that still need enrollment: www.tinyurl.com/SJCourses19
c. Join Vickie, Mairead and others in volunteering at the Admissions and Registration Help Stations as a City Scholar. Starting this Wednesday, August 7th, volunteer 2-3 hours to help new students apply for admissions and register for classes. Meet other students who lead clubs and organizations, and faculty and staff that lead departments and resource centers: City Scholars: Admissions and Registration Help Station
