Engineering

Engineering is a broad term to describe subjects that apply mathematical and scientific principles to design and build systems and structures. It is an extensive subject with specialisms in Mechanical, Chemical, Biological, Aerospace, Electrical and many more exciting sub-areas to explore.

1. Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering - this is concerned primarily with developing aircraft and space craft

2. Chemical Engineering - usually focuses on the operation and design of chemical plants - these usually take raw materials and make them into more profitable products.

3. Civil Engineering - looks at the design, maintenance and construction of public works such as roads, bridges, railways, and other vitally important elements of a country's infrastructure

4. Electrical and Electronic Engineering - focuses on the design, construction and maintenance of structures that use electricity.

5. Engineering Technology - typically use the general principles of engineering to design, create and implement solutions. Often found in product manufacturing or construction. 

6. Manufacturing Engineering - focus is on turning raw materials into a new product that is more economically profitable.

7. Material Science and Engineering - An interdisciplinary course which uses the knowledge of the material structure to develop products and solutions to problems.

8. Mechanical Engineering - Looking at the physical machinery and mechanisms that keep the world moving.

9. Software Engineering - mixture of both engineering and computing to design and develop new software applications.

10. Medical and Bioengineering - looking at engineering principles and applying these to medical practices and equipment to improve healthcare fields.
