Phone Apps for Emergencies
Whether its a hurricane, earthquake or other unforeseen event, the following ‘apps’ are considered to be among the best to have on your phone should you be caught in an emergency.
- “Hurricane” by the American Red Cross • A great all-in-one tool providing real-time tracking and can direct you to the nearest shelter. Best of all, the app will work without an internet connection.
- “Life 360” • App provides real-time location sharing, ideal for staying in contact with family and friends. Permits sharing your location with others and communication by text on secure network.
- “Scanner Radio” • Listen to local police and fire scanners. A valuable tool for staying up-to-date on local emergency situations and conditions in your area.
- “5.0 Radio Police Scanner” • Information on tornados, floods, riots, looting, hurricanes, earthquakes near you. Antidepressants recommended while operating.
- “Zello Walkie Talkie” • A ‘push-to-talk app used by volunteers engaged in rescue efforts.
- “Drop Box” • Scan copies of important and difficult to replace documents.
- Other ‘apps’ worth considering include: “Medical ID,” “Siren GPS,” and “First Aid” by the American Red Cross.
No matter how well we prepare for disasters, our involvement in some events is inevitable. These emergency mobile ‘apps’ may be valuable if needed; some can connect you to emergency aid resources, or to your own network of contacts. When your well being is endangered, be prepared to call for help or be informed with these ‘apps.’
