Technician License Class

Oh, c’mon, now.   Admit it.   You’ve been thinking about it for a while.

But there was always one thing or the other, and you never got around to it.

Well, now is probably a good time to do it. Now is a great time to get your amateur radio license.

The Henderson Amateur Radio Club, Henderson, NV, will sponsor a live, instructor-lead, on-line, 5-week, 10 session Technician Licensing Course.

The classes will be held using Zoom meeting technology. Zoom allows almost any computing device to access the on-line material.

The Technician License is the first license most new amateurs receive. Earning the license requires passing one exam of 35 questions covering radio theory, regulations and operating practices. All that is needed to pass is to correctly answer 26 out of the 35 questions (which means up to 9 questions can be missed). The 35 questions are drawn from a question pool of roughly 423 questions.

Each 2 hour training session will cover a portion of the body of knowledge needed to pass the exam, including reviewing the each of the pool questions associated with the material. By the end of the course, the student will have seen, and discussed, each of the 423 questions from the question pool. But this isn’t a “memorize-the-questions-and-answers” course. Each session will discuss the material addressed by the questions in sufficient depth so that the student will start gaining an understanding the material.

The course instructor is Timothy Collier (K7JTC). Tim holds an Amateur Extra License and is a Registered ARRL Instructor. Over the course of his amateur radio career, Tim has taught hundreds of students and has provided several hundred hours of instruction at all levels, including Technician, General, and Amateur Extra.

The course will use and follow the ARRL Ham Radio License Manual which is available from multiple sources, including the ARRL and DX Engineering

The manual comes in both softcover, spiral, and eBook editions. Many students prefer the spiral edition because it lies flat when opened. The manual information is as follows:

Silver, H. W. (2018). Ham Radio License Manual, 4th Ed Spiral (Fourth ed.). American Radio Relay League (ARRL).

ISBN Softcover: 978-1-62595-087-1     ISBN Spiral: 978-1-62595-082-6

The publisher will have ample copies of the textbooks in stock by the end of July.  Then the start date of the course will be announced.

Yep. Now is the time.

If you, or someone you know, is interested in this course, please send an email to K7JTC@arrl.net to register.

We hope to see you on-line!
