third grade

The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner will take you on a fun adventure this summer!  I recommend this book for grades 2-5 to be read independently, but it's a book your whole family can enjoy together.  Read to find out what Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny are up to and see what new "family member" joins the kids along the way.

For 3rd graders, I would recommend the "I Survived" series.  As a reader, I love historical fiction!  I enjoy making connections to the  events I have learned about from the past.

The book is called The Lemonade War and it's just a great series to read and I think most kids can relate!  This book is perfect for 3-4th grades.

This fun series of books has kids use clues to figure out what animal is being described.  In the book I'm Not a Penguin, you can learn fun facts about many polar animals --including a penguin, caribou, and narwhal--and what the mystery animal has in common with them. I'm Not a Giraffe features animals from the African Savana.  My 3rd-grade students loved the challenge of guessing which animal the narrator is before it is revealed on the final page.  These books would be a fun read-aloud for younger students or a fun independent read for 2nd grade and up.

We all loved  the heartwarming story  "The One and Only Ivan," and I know you'll love reading Bob and Ruby's story too. I'm looking forward to reading the newest book, "The One and Only Family," where Ivan and Kinyani welcome a set of twins to their family.

This next book is for all you frog lovers- "In Memory of Gorfman T. Frog."

Meet fifth-grader Josh—an irrepressible motormouth, always in trouble. His ordinary troubles grow wildly out of control when he brings a mutant frog he has found to school, and it seems everyone is on his case—parents, teacher, classmates, even the lunch ladies! When the frog is confiscated by the principal, Josh organizes the school to do what he knows is right. Heartwarming and hilarious, this novel  will have kids cheering.

In "The Most Magnificent Thing," a girl and her dog try to make something really amazing. Even when things don't go as planned, the girl learns that mistakes can help her create something even better. By not giving up, she discovers that great things can come from trying new ideas.

Magic Tree House Books

I really enjoy reading these books and exploring  new mysteries with Jack and Annie. These books are historical fiction and are fun to read as a series. You will want to read all of them!
