Biography

Koji Sugano received the M.S. and the Ph.D. degrees from Ritsumeikan University, Kusatsu, Japan, in 2001 and 2003, respectively.  He studied silicon dry etching during his dissertation work.  During his Ph.D. candidate, he had been involved in research and education for Department of Mechanical Engineering.  In 2003, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate school of Engineering, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, as an Assistant Professor.  He had been with the Department of Micro Engineering since 2005. In 2013, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering, Kobe University, Kobe, Japan. In 2022, he joined the Center for Advanced Medical Engineering Research and Development, Kobe University, as a Professor. Since 2023, he has been a Professor for Department of Medical Device Engineering, Graduate School of Medicine, Kobe University.

His current interest includes micro-/nano electromechanical systems, micro/nano fabrication, micro/nano fluidic devices, micro/nanoparticle synthesis and self-assembly, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), and bio-/chemical sensors.
