Hustings
Election Hustings
The theme of the evening is the thorny topic of energy in our constituency.
With the Spittal-Beauly line and substations, new onshore wind farms and battery storage facilities, our constituency is currently subject to an unprecedented number of proposed energy projects. Whether you welcome the opportunity or fear the negative consequences, the cumulative impact of these many developments will change the face of our area forever.
Are national energy strategy and the planning system fit for purpose?
In whose interests are these projects being carried out?
Is there sufficient local accountability?
From promises of jobs in renewables to the impact of pylons on the tourism industry and our landscape – you can ask the candidates for your vote anything to do with energy generation and transmission.
How will they help ensure a fair balance is struck between development and community concerns?
How do they propose to ensure our voices are heard in the national debate, and our interests meaningfully addressed in designing and planning the new projects that will affect communities for decades?
The General Election is your chance to elect an MP who represents your interests.
