At the front south church entrance, a short flight of stairs to the right leads into the pastor’s sacristy. It is a quiet place where the pastor prepares himself for ministering to the assembled congregation. The window above the stairway illustrates a message from Psalm 42. The deer at the window’s top recalls the opening verse of this Psalm: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.” It is a confession which both the pastor and every child of God can bring to mind upon preparing for worship. The window’s kneeling figure accentuates another preparation for worship by both pastor and congregation. It calls attention to the way both pastor and people begin their worship. They confess their sins and receive forgiveness from the Lord.
