In the group of three windows at wall’s middle on the north side, the one to the right pictures the Gospel from Mark 7:31-37. At its top is another Chi Rho and under it the word “Ephphatha.” Light rays from the word bring to life a green shoot with its flower. Below the shoot is a harp flanked by two singing birds.
The window pictures the story about Jesus healing a man who was deaf and could hardly talk. Jesus is the Lord Christ whose monogram appears at the top of the picture. He took the man away from the curious crowd, touched his ears and tongue, and spoke the word “Ephphatha” which means “Be opened.” Shedding its rays of strength, the word of Jesus at once opened the man’s ears and loosed his tongue so that, like a newly sprouted flowering shoot, he could hear and speak. The amazed onlookers responded to the miracle with a song of praise (harp and birds): “He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak.”
