There are two teams in the NBA that have made surprising leaps a little over the halfway point of the 2018-19 season: the Sacramento Kings in the West and the Brooklyn Nets in the East. But what makes Brooklyn the more accomplished team so far is that it is currently in the thick of things as far as getting to the postseason is concerned. And it is doing so with key player Allen Crabbe injured, explains Nets fan and Main Street Advisor Steven Rindner.
The Nets’ current run is amazing, and what fuels the team’s newfound success is the steady and clutch play of two of its starters, namely Spencer Dinwiddie and D’Angelo Russell. Together the two have led the Nets to heart-stopping wins throughout January, some of them among the league’s top teams.
What stands out is the team’s never-say-die attitude, which was manifested in the Tracy McGrady-reminiscent play of Dinwiddie this January, in which he shot three consecutive treys to power the Nets to overtime in the dying seconds of a thrilling match with the James Harden-led Rockets. He was also responsible for ensuring that they got the win on OT after an and-one play with a few seconds left.
D’Angelo Russell, on the other hand, has been posting all-star numbers and takes charge to complement Dinwiddie’s play. Also happening this January, Russell posted an awesome 19 straight points in a come-from-behind win over the Orlando Magic. The team ended January above the .500 mark, with a 27-24 record, enough to put them in sixth place in the East.
It also helps that the rest of the team are embracing the required staunch defense and getting better at finishing games, especially in close ones. The likes of Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen are helping the two fantastic Nets guards in attaining this unprecedented success. Assuming they don’t get injured, Dinwiddie and Russell will continue bringing the Nets to new heights this season, adds Main Street Advisor Steven Rindner.
