Beyond real estate: The intersection of hospitals and hotels

Steven Rindner, main street advisor, has noticed just how hospitals in the New Jersey area have evolved throughout the years, in terms of facilities and appearance. While some hospitals still look like the traditional asylum, newer institutions have been built to look like hotels. Many more of the older hospitals have undergone renovations to look more accommodating and relaxing.

Because of this, commercial real estate investors and developers have slowly been giving notice to hospitals more than ever before. After all, hospitals are very much like hotels. Both properties have multiple rooms where people check in and out daily. The hospital revolution started when commercial real estate developers noticed this and researched ways to make hospitals more pleasant, being a generally stressful place for many reasons.

Hospitals have incorporated more than just the appearance of hotels. Nowadays, hospital staff undergo training quite similar to those of hotel staff. This allows for a more personal and more comfortable experience for patients. It's very common today to see nurses and other hospital staff greet and even exchange pleasantries with patients.
