Victor suffered prolonged and extreme anxiety post monster creation in Shelley's novel and Branagh's film. He abandoned his monster, neglecting and not dealing with him. Upon fleeing his experiment in horror and self disgust and returning home, he was extremely skittish and paranoid with a "disturbed imagination". He was haunted by death in his resolve to distort and abuse nature and reverse it, but also by nightmares of Caroline's corpse in his arms in the novel.
