This is not so much a department as it is an echelon of authority. The Commanding Officer (CO) and Executive Officer (XO) are responsible for the fulfillment of the ship's mandate, completion of ship's missions, welfare of the crew, and the welfare of the ship. These officers work on the bridge and are part of the senior staff.
In the Romulan Galae (Fleet), the CO and the XO can also be called COMMANDER and SUBCOMMANDER respectivelly.
The Operations (Ops) department is responsible for efficiently allocating the resources of the ship, ensuring there are sufficient resources to carry out missions and daily functions. They are constantly in contact with all other departments.
Ops is responsible for distribution of power throughout the ship. Weapons, shields, deflector control, replicators, gravity plating, life support, turbolifts, internal communications, transporters, and auxiliary systems are all things operations officers must constantly monitor and control. When the need arises to reroute power to an area, Ops must compensate for the increase or decrease on the other systems. Other duties include assigning docking space, ensuring that replicators are sufficiently stocked, keeping an accurate inventory of cargo holds, and making sure that all other departments have the equipment they need.
Helm (or helm control) is a term for the flight control operations onboard a starship or shuttle. Helm is responsible for controlling the flight operations of the ship, including warp, impulse and thruster control. Helm is also responsible for controlling the ship during a landing sequence or docking procedure.
The Security department is charged with maintaining law and order on the ship. They are responsible for enforcing Rihannsu law, manning the brig, keeping accurate inventory of the armory, and ensuring the general safety of the crew. Ultimately their job is to keep the good guys in and the bad guys out or locked up. They are the police officers of ship and serve as a line of defense against invaders.
The Tactical Officer controls the main defense systems aboard the ship. He/She is the security officer assigned to the bridge to handle tactical and defensive systems.
Although sometimes trekkers confuses the roles of Chief of Security and Tactical Officer, on S'Task, the Chief of Security is the highest rank in the security/tactical department, and all security officers assigned to tactical (tactical officers) also respond to Chief of Security (CoS). So, on S'Task there is no such a thing as a "Chief Tactical Officer",
The Chief of Security may handle the Tactical Station in the bridge.
During their shifts in the bridge, the tactical officer responds to the officer commanding of the ship (CO or XO).
The Engineering department is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the ship's engines, propulsion systems and other technology aboard. Led by the Chief Engineering Officer (CEO), the ship's engineers monitor and control the flow and reaction of the matter-antimatter (warp) and fusion (impulse) engines and distribute the power produced according to the needs of the ship, as determined by Naval procedure and the ship's Operations department. They are often called upon to find ways to stretch systems well beyond their designed functions, and at its most intensive, engineers may have to immediately design solutions to previously unfaced challenges. Transporter control and personnel fall under the authority of the Engineering department.
The Science department is responsible for collecting and analyzing gathered data in the course of the duty station’s exploration. They are responsible for classifying discovered planets and species, analyzing flora, fauna, and geological samples, and reporting on their findings. Science officers are usually the ones operating the tricorders. The head of the department is the Chief Science Officer (CSO).
The Medical department is responsible for the physical well-being of the crew. The duties of a medical officer include manning and maintaining sickbay; tending to sick and injured patients; and determining whether crew members are physically fit for duty. They are often called upon to work with the Science department to find cures for new and exotic diseases. The head of the medical department is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Fighter pilots fly small, single-occupant craft designed for maneuverability in dogfight scenarios in both planetary and space settings. They are also often called upon to pilot shuttlecraft and runabouts on away missions.
The figher wing assigned to SES S'Task is the 601th (6th Swarm, 1st Wing)
The Legion is the Rihannsu equivalent of The Federation Marine Corps (FMC) serving as the personal combat forces of the ship. The duty of Legionnaires is to serve as offensive units, board and take over enemy ships, and aide Security in defensive manoeuvres. They are essentially the infantry units of the ship.
One Legion Battalion serves on SES S'Task: the 106th Rihannsu Legion Battalion.
The structure of a typical Legion is the following:
Squad => 6 Legionnaires => 5 Legionnaires + Squad Leader
Platoon => 25 Legionnaires => 4 squads + Platoon Leader
Company => 104 Legionnaires => 4 platoons + (1st Sergeant) + (Sergeant Major) + XO + CO
Battalion => 523 Legionnaires => 5 companies + (Command Sergeant Major) + XO + CO
OBS: Why 106th? 1: First Battalion / 0: of (the) / 6: 6th Swarm
CAT'OGs
Legionnaires work closely to the Zoo Keeper to train Cat'ods (hybrids between feline and canine = Cat + Dog) to serve as K9 legionnaires. CAT'OG are hybrids between the Le matyas, a wild predator species on Vulcan that resembled Earth mountain lions, and a canine animal that the Romulans found on ch'Rihan. This hybrid produces a lethal venom that can be injected into their prey via their claws and canine teeth, if ordered to. So a bite would not kill the victim unless the canine handler orders it to release the poison.
The Tal'Shiar is the Civilian Intelligence Agency of the Rihannsu Empire, maintaining order and stability among the Rihannsu society. They have a broad scope of power, extending into all walks of Rihannsu life, and all citizens are assured in their safety, knowing the Tal'Shiar are everywhere, watching for disloyalty and/or threats to the Empire.
There is often a Tal'Shiar presence aboard Romulan warbirds, to ensure things are running as they should and officers are loyal to the Empire. Reports are sent back to the Tal Shiar Supreme Commander.
Officially, the Tal'Diann is Military Intelligence Agency of the Rihannsu Empire but it also is the internal affairs division of the Galae (Romulan Star Navy). The Tal'Diann reports to the Star Command and serves as a form of Galae (naval) intelligence separate from the Tal'Shiar intelligence service.
The organization was created to serve as a safeguard against the rising power of the Tal'Shiar. This is because of the fleet's belief that trusting the intelligence services good graces would have been unwise and thus the Tal'Diann polices the Galae. They serve as the counter-intelligence wing against the Tal'Shiar operations who subjected all other organizations, including the civilians, to intense scrutiny. The Tal'Diann also are tasked with monitoring relations between the Galae Command and the senatorial fleets.
The head of the Tal'Diann is known as the Chief of Military Intelligence who holds the rank of erei'Enriov or Enriov (Admiral) within the Imperial Galae and reports directly to the Praetor and sits on the High Tribunal, something that has been an annoyance of the Tal'Shiar.
The most visible members of the Tal'Diann were the Legates (or Belisaro). Each ship is assigned a Legate who serve as the Star Command's eyes and ears. During times of war Legates take command of the unified Star Navy so to maintain the political balance. They serve in the Praetor's name and have ultimate authority in matters such as promotions, troop movements, strategies and other war duties.
A training camp for the organization is located on Coravus Prime where recruits are sent to receive training for intelligence operations.
Starfleet officers serving aboard, acting as a Liaison between the Federation and Romulan Empire.
Klingon officers serving aboard, acting as a Liaison between the Klingon and Romulan Empires.
Federation Ambassadors are non-military officials from the Federation who oversee diplomatic ties with the Romulans. They usually have their own staff to see to their needs - security, personal assistant, etc.
Before Romulans can receive their citizenship which allow them to vote, marry and to join the Academy, all Romulans have to serve a mandatory service of 5 years. This mandatoty service is called D'Talla.
All Romulans serving their D'Talla's start with the rank of uhlan which is the lowest rank in the
the military as NCO's (non-commissioned officers). Differently from the Academy where cadets can chose their area of interest to serve, uhlans are assigned where the Galae most needed them.
Their schedule is quite rough though. They serve one shift a day in their designed areas and in the other they have classes and training in multiple areas. At the end of the D'Talla, if they are deemed acceptable they may be sent to the Academy and given further training, however, in the last two decades, about 20-30% of the Romulans attending their D'Tallas died in the line of duty.
Cadets are Romulans that attend the Galae Academy so they can rejoin the Galae as officers. Only ROmulans citizens can become cadets, so if a Romulan wants to become an officer, he/she must wait until their D'Talla is finished (so they are granted their citizenship) before enlisting for one of the Galae Academy Courses.
The Academy program lasts 4 years and only if they complete the training and pass it, they are sent back to a ship for service. At this point they are promoted to Erein and start their commission as officers.
Cadets have a rough academic schedule and are trained in different areas. At the end of the second year, they are assigned to whichever department they have excelled in and in the next two years they will receive specific trainning on that area.
In exceptional circumstances, officers can be demoted to final year cadets rank (erei'Erein) for disciplinary reasons.
Slavery were considered normal in Rihannsu culture until 2419 when the DFA-RSE Agreement was signed and all slaves within the RSE were freed.
Slaves were assigned to individuals, houses or services.
In the past, Galae also assigned slaves to its ships. These slaves were resources serving the ship as a whole they could be assigned to a department in which they might have some skill or training. Higher ranking officers would have access to personal slaves, who were there to serve their every day needs. Since Galae Slaves were considered Galae property any misusage of the slave or damage that might happen to them could result in a punishment to crewmember responsible for it.
Many different races were Rihannsu slaves, including Hannri, Gorwah, Remans, Humans, Ocampans and Akaali.
