Secondary dominants

Watch all of this video - I think it does a great job of explaining how to find this alternative chords.

Borrowed chords

Watch this video up to around 7.40. At this point he starts talking about modes, which are interesting but also a bit confusing. He mentions 'mixolydian' earlier, which is also a mode. I'll explain more in class.

6th March 2019

In pairs, research and create a presentation or handout for one of the following composers (you need to divide the work between you!) This needs to be complete at the end of period 1.

    • Poulenc
    • Stravinsky
    • Hindemith
    • Prokofiev
    • Debussy
    • Ravel

You need the following information:

      • Key facts (dates, birth place, where they lived etc)
      • Influences (impact of location, historical context, composers they worked with or developed from)
      • Musical style (including events in their like which impacted their style)
      • Examples of standout pieces
      • Anything else interesting

Don't forget to actually listen to some of their music! Find something you like or can comment on.
