I CAN'T PLAY IT!
What to do you do when you sit down to play a piece and completely forget how to play it? (yes it has happened to all of us!)
Well don't get worked up - just go back to basics: Let's say we are learning 'Hot Cross Bun' :)
Starting with the first bar or first few bars:
- clap the notes (use any body percussion you like and start slow until you get it)
- say the note syllables aloud (eg taa taa too-oo|taa taa too-oo)
- hiss the notes (perfect for woodwind and brass players! Percussion use scat: ba ba b-um)
- say the notes (eg B A G_ | B A G_)
- play the notes on your instrument! (again slowly until you get it)
Now learn the next 'chunk' (few bars) and then add these to the first few you learnt and so on.
