A note from our Band Conductor, Mrs Vicki Harris, February 2019:
I recently attended a professional development session with Dr Anita Collins recently. Dr Collins was a mentor on the ABC show ‘Don’t Stop the Music’ in late 2018, and she was discussing with us the amazing benefits of learning a musical instrument and the effects this has on the developing brain, specifically how 2 to 3 years of musical instrument training can change the ‘wiring’ of the brain for life.

IT'S ALL ABOUT OUR MIND SET:
We have heard the term growth mind set thrown around a lot recently especially in education circles. it is so true!!
When students (and adults!) believe they can become smarter and they understand that effort makes them stronger. They put in extra time and effort which leads to higher achievement.
As parents we can support and encourage our children to move towards a growth mind set.
There is tonnes of information and literature on the internet regarding growth mind set - just Google it!
