Unsolved discoveries from the past somehow have captivating the interest of public. This probably because people tend to imagine of how and why those things exist, come out with interesting explanation. These discoveries have left the scientists scratching heads every year as they keep searching for the answers.


STONEHENGE

World’s most famous landmark, Stonehenge, is prehistoric stone monument stands at Salisbury Plain located 13km from Wiltshire, England. Its name derived from the Saxon stan-hengen, means “stone hanging” or “gallows”. It was a ring of megalithic stones and arranged in post-and-lintel formation which built around 4000 years ago in six stages between 3000 and 1520 BCE. The large standing stones are ‘sarsen’ while the smaller ones are ‘bluestone’. Around this landmark, there were more than 350 nearby mountains and henges. But, the archaeologists have not found the original purpose of this monument, until now. It was built during the transition from the Neolithic Age to Bronze Age, so it is unusual for the hunter-gatherer to build the monument and there are no comparable structure from that era in northwestern Europe.

Stonehenge has been the subject of historical speculation for searching the meaning and significance of the monument for so long, which range from being the religious temple, a place of healing, become sort of a ‘device’ for astronomical observatory and even a monument to the death (the stone representing the eternal afterlife). However, in 2015, some archaeologists reported had found two quarries in the Preseli Mountains which 225 km Stonehenge. From the discovery, they found that the stones have been quarried approximately 500 years before the Stonehenge was built. They think that the blue stones were part of the earlier monument which had dismantled and being reused back to build Stonehenge.

WHAT IS IT SO MYSTERY ABOUT MACHU PICCHU?

Perhaps, some or most of us did not know what is Machu Picchu, is it the generations of Pikachu or something else? Obviously, that is not the answer. Machu Picchu is one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the planet, called “The Stone City”. For those who still wonder why it is so, let we get to know about this place.

It is located Northwest of Cuso, Peru. Machu Picchu is an evidence to the power and innovation to the Inca People. During the moment of Inca Empire, it developed to 2500 miles along South America’s pacific Coastline, from Modern day Ecuador down into Chile. This empire is one of the well-preserved remnants of its civilization. It was built around the mid 15th century and considered as one of the Inca’s engineering achievement. When we talk about Machu Picchu, we probably think that it is just about one site. Well, in this place, there were actually existence of palaces, temples, terraces and infrastructure using stone. Can you imagine that they do built it without advanced tools made of steel or iron? Plus, it is more shocking to know that this site lasts for more than 500 years, even when earthquakes happened. It feels surreal, imagine going there, by looking at this amazing site by our own. Although its history is indeed an inspiration for the Inca civilizations, Machu Picchu did not get much attention as others’ archaeological sites at before. Local communities knew about the place but Machu Picchu was remainly unknown to outsiders, researchers and even archaeologists. Why it is considered unsolved mystery? It is told that Machu Picchu could not be proven for what it is built and deserted. After 100 years it was built, Machu Picchu was later abandoned. The Inca had no written language and even none records exist to explain the existence of Machu Picchu, some just assume it is for ceremonial site, military stronghold and a retreat for notability. As far as we know, there is still no actual proof for what is it built. well.. maybe.. only God knows or we have to wait until Machu Picchu is proven built for solid reasons, in the future. However, the engineering of the Inca People showed that it deserves to be declared by the UNESCO on 1983 as one of the world heritage sites.

BATU RASAK

The existence of 'Batu Rasak' until today is not known generally. The location of Batu Rasak is located in the forest at Kampung Penan Muslim Batu 10 Jalan Bintulu-Miri. What is the story of this 'Batu Rasak'? According to the story, in 200 years ago there was a Penan party. At the party, they have cooked various kind of food meal. Among them are the flesh of squirrels and turtle meat in a reed. They enjoyed the turtle meat meal because it had a good taste and delicious. Afterwards they tasted the flesh of the squirrel but the taste was upside down where the meat of the turtle was delicious but the flesh of the squirrel was not good. Therefore, because of the taste of the meat of squirrels, they were laughing hard and loud. After that, it seems like a cloudy black sky signifies rain and the wind were strong and heavy, and those who laughed at the flesh all suddenly turned into stone.

The stone was named as Batu Rasak because the chief of Penan people named Rasak and his men who were affected by it. If the stone is seen in a state of sitting and standing, the chairman seems to still sit in place of his king and his men who are in the state of standing and sitting. All those who participated in the crowd could not escape from the accident, but other people went hunting as they were not affected by the present descendants of the tribe.

In conclusion, until now the existence of the Rasak stone is not known by public and if you want to visit the stone area must be accompanied by villagers. Some abstinence must also be obeyed because it is said that these stones still keep their authenticity and occupants in the area. The researchers and the archaeologists might have not familiar of this place.
