*JURP 2021 Now Available

The Journal of Undergraduate Reports in Physics (JURP) is a peer-reviewed publication of the Society of Physics Students that allows for students to publish their research as an undergraduate. The 2021 issue of JURP is now available online at SPS and AIP Publishing! You can submit your undergraduate research to JURP here.


*Party of the Century!

Join SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma on December 11, 2021 to celebrate our 100th birthday! Sign up to receive the a party box and link for the for a special celebration video, including plenary talks by honored guests Toni Sauncy, former SPS Director and Willie Rockward, former Sigma Pi Sigma President. The celebration video will honor SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma Service Award recipients (nominate someone from your chapter or community by Oct. 22 to be included in the video). Get your free party box (while supplies last) filled with SPS and Sigma Pi Sigma themed swag and party supplies: a giant SPS flag, prizes, balloons, stickers, pins, themed confetti, and more!

Parties will take place anytime between November 1 to December 12. We encourage chapters to post pictures of the centennial parties on social media and #SPSNational!


*Attend the Trimble Lecture

The Center for History of Physics will be hosting the Lyne Starling Trimble Lecture, “Campaigning for More Marie Curies: The Movement to Expand Young Women's STEM Participation, 1950-2021” by Amy Bix, Iowa State University, on Wednesday, September 29, at 3 PM ET. Register to attend here!


*Don't Forget - Two New SPS Awards!

As a reminder, SPS is now offering the Food for Hungry Physics Students grant to help alleviate food and personal need concerns for physics students and AIP-SPS Undergraduate Student Emergency Tuition Assistance for those negatively impacted economically by the pandemic.

Each award is on a first come, first serve basis and funding is limited. Apply today!

If you want to learn more about graduate programs, check out the digital copy of The Student Guide to Grad Programs in Physics, Astronomy & Related Fields, which contains tons of articles for those thinking about graduate school and is supported by SPS, AIP, and GradSchoolShopper.

There are many programs hosting opportunities this fall to learn about their graduate programs. For example, MIT’s Physics Graduate Application Assistance Program (PhysGAAP), will include two webinars focused on common questions about applying to graduate school. The first webinar occurs on September 29, 2021.

*Society of Rheology Leadership Opportunity

The Society of Rheology (SoR) has multiple leadership opportunities. The SoR Executive Committee and the SoR Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committees are looking for students to serve. Applicants with leadership or organizational experience in career development are especially encouraged to apply.

Applications are due by November 1, 2021 with terms from January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2023. Applicants must be students and members of the Society of Rheology at the time of application.
