Brazilian Visa

Do you need a Visa?

To enter the Brazilian border you should have a passport valid for 6 months beyond your intended stay, and in some specific cases you may need a Visa. Brazil adopts a policy of reciprocity regarding visas. This means that nationals of countries that require visas for Brazilian citizens will need a visa to travel to Brazil.

Itamaraty (the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) is the body of the Brazilian government responsible for granting visas, which occurs through the Embassies, General Consulates, Consulates and Vice consulates of Brazil abroad. Take note that the Brazilian visa will never be granted in Brazilian territory. Therefore, it is not possible to obtain your visa in airports, ports of entry or any other point of the Brazilian border.

If you do need a Visa, let us know as soon as possible which documents you will need from the school (simple invitation letter? notarized letter? school program? other?).

What type of Visa should I get?

Students who will stay less than 90 days in Brazil have to apply for a visit visa (VIVIS). Some of the Brazilian Embassies may not issue a VIVIS, and in this case you should apply for a VITUR (tourism visa). More information here:

Citizens of some countries are exempted from the visa VIVIS and travel visa-free to Brazil. Check here if you need a VIVIS:

How and where to apply for a VIVIS? Every Brazilian consulate has its own workflow. For any questions regarding fees and payment methods, as well as required documents, please contact the Brazilian embassy or consulate where your visa application will be processed:

School Program

Those applying for a Brazilian VISA may need a printable version of the School Program. This is how you can get it:

  1. Go to Program tab on this website.
  2. Click on the Pop-out icon, on the top right corner of the embedded program.
  3. When your browser show the document in a new tab, click the download icon.

Flight Itinerary

The procedures adopted by each Brazilian Embassy might be slightly different. For instance, it might be that they will ask you for a "Copy of a booked flight itinerary showing travel to and from Brazil". If this is the case, please confirm if they need a purchased flight ticket, or just a reservation itinerary.

In the first case, you should let us know as soon as possible. In the second case, you could try the suggestions given here:
