HOW DO I SUBMIT MY MYO?
MYOS can be submit in two ways. First you can join the discord and open a Ticket in the FAQ section to submit a MYO
Second you can DM Timshel on Toyhouse or Deviantart or Discord Directly OR Strawberry-hunny on Discord or Toyhouse directly
If you have a spectrel MYO (Make-Your-Own) slot and you're looking for some tips on where to start, you're in the right place! If you have an existing spectrel that you would like to redesign, scroll down to the Redesign Guide section below. If you don't yet have a spectrel or MYO slot of your own and would like one, head on over to the How to Get a Spectrel page!
Here are some things to know before you start designing your MYO spectrel:
Be aware of your MYO slot's rarity! If you have a common slot, you are limited to using only common traits without using charm upgrades purchased through Chime's Charm Shop. If you have a higher rarity slot, you may use traits of that rarity and all rarities below it. You can do this on discord through the ticket system or by Dming Strawberry-hunny on Discord or Toyhouse directly
You may take as long as you like to complete your design! All official MYO entries are listed on the Spectrel Bank indefinitely, and are updated with art and traits once your design is approved.
You may base your spectrel on a character that you yourself has created, or on a character that you own but did not create as long as the original creator allows you to. You may NOT base you spectrel on a copyrighted character not owned by you, but instead you may take inspiration from their colors or design elements rather than making a direct spectrel copy.
You must submit an image of your completed design for approval to our staff before you post it publicly, on either DeviantArt or Discord. You are free to send a work-in-progress in the discord in the appropriate section as well to make sure the design is on track to being approved. (you can also see above for how to submit a myo)
You are free to commission someone to design your spectrel for you, as long as they are made aware of the species traits and information.
We allow members to resell their unused MYO Slots if you have paid for it. You may not resell raffled, gifted or MYOs purchased using Hallows. You may trade or gift away any raffled, gifted of purchased with hallows MYO slots.
You may return your MYO Slots to the Admins, but you will not be refunded and Hallows will not be given.
Note: Other non-MYO Charms may be returned for Hallows only through the MYO/Charm Shop.
Nine basic subspecies of spectrels exist, and each of these subspecies can also interbreed, creating many different hybrid varieties:
MAMMAL (COMMON) - Can be based on any mammalian creature other than humans.
AVIAN (UNCOMMON) - Can be based on any avian creature.
REPTILE (UNCOMMON) - Can be based on any reptilian creature.
EXTINCT (UNCOMMON) - Can be based on any extinct creature which is no longer living.
AQUATIC (UNCOMMON) - Can be based on any water bound creatures including amphibians.
INSECT (RARE) - Can be based on any crawling critter including arachnids, bugs and insects, Insects are allowed to have physical wings (though not required.)
DRAGON (RARE) - Can be based on any sort of dragon like creature, Dragons are allowed to have physical wings (though not required.)
HUMAN (RARE) - Can be based on humans or human-like species (such as elves or orcs).
HYBRID (SUPER-RARE) - Can be a mix of any or all of the other subspecies, may have physical wings.
Within each subspecies there is a great deal of visual diversity, so spectrels can look very different from one another. Many features can be seen across the various subspecies and hybrids, but dragons, insects and hybrids are the only ones known to have physical wings. On average, spectrels can range from around three to eight feet tall.
A Spectrel that is a mix of several different types of creatures within the same subspecies (such as a spectrel with both wolf and deer features) is not considered a hybrid subspecies. The hybrid term only applies to spectrels that are a mix of two or more different Spectrel subspecies types.
Physical (non spectra) fur/skin/eye/blood colors, iris shapes, markings/patterns, and other visual details are not limited by traits, so go wild within the limitations of your selected subspecies! Feel free to use real, fantasy, or other creatures for inspiration.
A spectrel is born with their arms intact, and they remain this way throughout most of their childhood. Spectra usually awaken sometime during adolescence, when the spectrel will develop their new arms and abilities.
During this manifestation, most spectrels lose either a portion or the entirety of their physical arms. The arm lengths you can choose from are:
HALF (COMMON) - The physical arm remaining can range from the mid upper-arm to the elbow.
NO ARM (UNCOMMON) - No physical arm remains.
FULL (RARE) - The full physical arm remains, including the hands.
UNEVEN (SUPER-RARE) - Both physical arms are of different lengths, may be a combination of any of the other arm lengths.
Spectra are amazing, ghostly powers that spectrels obtain in adolescence. The physical manifestations of spectra include often oversize, ethereal arms, and a “spectra type” that varies from spectrel to spectrel. The spectra arms are included by default, and don't count as a spectra type!
You may only use one spectra type unless your MYO slot is Super-Rare, or if you've bought a SR Trait Charm. This is because the Double Spectra Trait (see Step Four below for more information) is required to have two spectra types. Spectrels with a Seasonal Curse (granted by a cursed charm) are also allowed to have an extra spectra type, for a total of 3 spectra types when using both the Double Spectra Trait and a Seasonal Curse.
These are the different spectra types you may choose from, please see the Species Guide page for more details on each type:
COMMON: Tail, Mane, Horn, Spine, Ear, Scale, Talon, Shell
UNCOMMON: Tendril, Tattoo, Fang, Feather, Mask, Tongue, Fin, Tentacle
RARE: Elemental, Mineral, Eye, Smoke, Eye Aura, Halo, Flora, Clothing
SUPER-RARE: Portal, Wing, Companion, Object, Wound, Mouth, Shadow, Extra Arms, Tech, Hollow, Armour
You may also pick a “spectra power” for each of your spectrel's spectra types, which can be just about any ability/super power imaginable. If you don't want to pick a power for your spectrel, that's fine too!
The physical manifestations of spectra usually appear to be made of a matte, ethereal substance, but the appearance can differ if certain traits are present. These traits can also be combined, making many unique appearances possible.
If your MYO slot is Common rarity, you can't add spectra traits without using spectra trait charms from Chime's Charm Shop. With an all-common spectrel, the spectra must be one color, with at most a gradient from a lighter to darker value.
If your MYO slot is Uncommon rarity or higher, these are the traits you can use (see more details about each trait on the Species Guide page):
COMMON: Single Colour
UNCOMMON: Glowing, Glossy, Multicolor
RARE: Glimmering, Patterned
SUPER-RARE: Textured
Special Traits are the unique traits that don't fit in "Spectra Type" or "Spectra Trait" and vary in how they affect the way a Spectrel looks.
UNCOMMON: Alternate Palette
RARE: Unusual Shape
SUPER-RARE: Detached, Double Spectra, Body Type: Taur
And with that, you should be ready to design your new spectrel! If you have any unanswered questions or concerns, please contact Timshel on DeviantArt or Discord, or post in the Spectrel Discord Channel. We're always happy to help!
If you own an existing spectrel that you would like to redesign, no problem! The process is easy and the guidelines are simple. You have creative freedom in the redesign as long as the new design is recognizable as originating from the old one. This means that you can change things like colors, markings, and physical features if the changes are not too extreme! Gender, sex, weight, and height may also be freely changed. You may also commission an artist to redesign a spectrel for you as long as they follow the same guidelines.
Unless you own trait upgrade charms from the Charm Shop, you may not change any trait specific features such as subspecies, spectra type/traits, and physical arm length. This includes changes within the same rarity (as in from one common spectra type to a different one). You may, however change the appearance of a spectra type while keeping it the same kind- for example, you could change a tail spectra from looking like a wolf tail to a demon tail.
Once you complete a spectrel redesign, you must send the new art by DMing Timshel on Toyhouse or Deviantart or Discord Directly OR Strawberry-hunny on Discord or Toyhouse directly before you may post it on DeviantArt or Discord in order for it to become official. Once approved, the redesign art will replace the old art on the masterlist, and the redesigner will be listed alongside the original designer(s) as the creating the redesign.
If you wish, a spectrel you own may be retired from being an official member of the species at any time. If you are interested in retiring a design, please be aware of the following information:
The retiring process is permanent and can NOT be undone.
Your spectrel and all associated images/traits/information will be removed from the masterlist, and their masterlist ID number will be recycled for use on a new spectrel.
The design is no longer eligible to participate in prompts and other events held by the species. However, you are welcome to participate with other spectrels you happen to own or obtain in the future.
The design is no longer considered an official spectrel, but you are not required to change anything about the design unless you want to.
You are no longer allowed to refer to the design as a spectrel, but you can mention that the design used to be a spectrel if you wish.
If you accept and understand the above information, contact timshel on DeviantArt or Discord to have your spectrel retired and removed from the species. There are no hard feelings about retiring a design, so please don't hesitate if you feel that it is the best choice for you!
