One of the most important, best, and exciting ways to experience a new culture is through food! We had the opportunity to eat many types of amazing food from around the world while we were in big cities, as well as Spanish classics while we were in smaller towns. From left to right, top row - Korean grill in Madrid, tapas de croquetas y verduras in Barcelona, croquetas in Cordoba. Bottom row - Cuban food in Madrid, gelato served by a Chilean in Madrid, Churros in Madrid.
In Granada, there were many restaurants with various Moorish and Middle Eastern foods, our favorite of which was a quaint Pakistani restaurant where we were served milk tea and this chicken wrap covered in powdered sugar, peanuts, and cinnamon.
When going on orientation walks upon arriving in a new city, our tour guide, Rich, would often take us to a local restaurant, pub, or storefront that he personally recommended. Not only was this a great chance to get to know the other people in the group, it was always delicious and insightful. One stop that stood out to us was the Mesón del Champiñón - a hole-in-the-wall tapas bar that specialized in stuffed mushrooms! The restaurant was in a quaint space carved out of the old city walls and covered in mushroom-esque decor. We would highly recommend visiting on your next trip to Madrid!
