After the official tour ended in Sevilla, we went to Cordoba on our way back to Madrid to fly home. The highlight of the city is the grand Mezquita, exhibiting centuries of varying architecture and moments of pure admiration for the artistic genius behind the massive Mosque turned Church. We found another colorful stained glass window here, and we were able to stand in the light (bottom right photo). Walking through the city, we saw the famous flower lined streets (top right photo) and many cute cats wondering around (top left photo). Camille also got the chance to practice ordering at a bar in Spanish (bottom left photo).
In the center of the Moorish architecturally distinct Mezquita sits a more modern church filled with symbols of Christianity, white marble details, and black gothic art characteristic of inquisition style cathedrals.
Here you can see the arches from the original Mosque have been connected with a more modern, white arched ceiling. When the Catholics converted the site, they appreciated the splendor of the building so much that, instead of replacing it, they simply built within it, leading to several unique areas of mixed styles.
A moment in time, this photo is one last appreciation of the beautiful white towns of southern Spain, set on the backdrop of a bright blue sky during a perfect summer's day.
