Technological processes and resources enhance learning and serve as an infrastructure for administering a properly staffed and well funded library media program.
The library allocation from the state of Florida changes per year based on student enrollment. The funds allocated this year were $4094.52 and Mrs. Friday is using that to develop the collection by filling gaps of missing books, newly released titles, books written in Spanish, curriculum tie-ins, professional resources, and completing book series.
Mrs. Friday has applied for and received over $10,000 in grants from 2016-2019 for MakerSpace and literacy projects. Mrs. Friday also submitted our program in the Follett Challenge and won $8,000 for books and maker supplies.
Throughout the year, Mrs. Friday fundraises for additional funds through our Book Fairs, Spirit nights at local restaurants, and by building relationships with business partners who will donate towards the incredible things happening in our school. The current total of funds donated to Southwest Middle School through Mrs. Friday's efforts is $24, 296.40 as of December 20, 2019, and while not all of those funds directly impact the Media Center, they directly impact the school and the Media Center is the heart of the school.
Mrs. Friday also serves on the Sunshine State Young Readers Award Committee which has earned Southwest approximately $10,000 in new books over the course of the last two school years.
Mrs. Friday uses Titlewave Collection Analysis and the Collection Development Plan to spend these funds in a way that can best build the collection and the program.
