South Golden Road has become a freeway that is loud, congested, and dangerous. Due to significant growth, including a new, large Pleasant View Development, we can anticipate that current issues will get significantly worse. Our group's focus area is South Golden Road between the Johnson Road roundabout to Golden High School.
South Golden Road is the only entrance to the city that does not have traffic calming or speed reducing measures. The posted speed limit, 35 miles per hour, is among the highest in the city. The posted speed is frequently exceeded because the road is an open straightaway between the round abouts.
Due to high speeds and a lack of cross walks, this section road through our community is dangerous for anyone not in a car or truck. When you want to use public transportation, you have to either walk out of your way to cross the road, or run across the road without a cross walk.
Noise from South Golden Road comes from vehicles moving at relatively high speeds, drivers accelerating after the round abouts into the straightaway, and people intentionally revving vehicles, often motorcycles, in order to produce sounds.
