We had 121 community members come out for our Hands Off! protest on April 5th. Most of the interactions we had with people driving by were positive. It was a beautiful day filled with folks meeting each other, singing, dancing, and getting ready for future actions!Â
When Giving Plate ended their program of snack bags for low-income and houseless students in Bend La Pine Schools, several SCCA members stepped up immediately to find out what we could do to support BLS South County students. This has led to a huge amount of donations collected by one of our members. In mid-March 2025, South County schools were able to end their acceptance of donations due to receiving a grant from Sunriver Women's Club that funds this project through the school year and into the next.
On March 15th, 13 members of SCCA gathered and wrote a total of 105 postcards and letters in protest of Donald Trump and his administration. These cards were part of a nationwide protest showing our dissent. This was a cathartic process that also brought moments of laughter and community. This is what SCCA is all about - building community.
On August 2nd, we had another postcard protest party against Bentz and the Big Bad Bill. We were able to write 68 postcards and send him our thoughts on his voting as wel as requests for him to hold a town hall in Deschutes County.
