When attending any protest, make sure you are taking care of yourself. Some key things to remember:
Make a safety plan. Whether you are an organizer or an attendee, a safety plan is important.
During the protest, know who is part of the safety team and make sure someone not attending the protest knows where you are.
If you encounter counter-protesters or instigators: stay calm, move if necessary, drown out their noise, DO NOT ENGAGE, and alert someone on the safety team or the event organizer.
Think about digital security: turn of biometrics on your phone, use encrypted messaging apps, and avoid real-time posts.
Personal safety: dress in neutrals, where close-toed shoes, carry water and snacks in a fanny pack, and never wander off alone.
Know your rights: be familiar with state and local laws
