What is Method?

Generally, a method implies a systematic way of doing something. In social work, the method is understood as the systematic and planned way of helping the people. The main concern of social work is to solve psycho-social problems of individuals, groups, and communities through the conscious application of knowledge in methods, tools, techniques, and skills of social work. In this task, the social worker has to be equipped with all the necessary social work methods that ease his job to help the people solve their own problems.

সাধারণত, একটি পদ্ধতি কিছু করার একটি পদ্ধতিগত উপায় বোঝায়। সামাজিক কাজে, পদ্ধতিটি মানুষকে সাহায্য করার পদ্ধতিগত এবং পরিকল্পিত উপায় হিসাবে বোঝা যায়। সামাজিক কাজের প্রধান উদ্বেগ হল ব্যক্তি, গোষ্ঠী এবং সম্প্রদায়ের মানসিক-সামাজিক সমস্যাগুলিকে সামাজিক কাজের পদ্ধতি, সরঞ্জাম, কৌশল এবং দক্ষতার জ্ঞানের সচেতন প্রয়োগের মাধ্যমে সমাধান করা। এই কাজটিতে, সমাজকর্মীকে সমস্ত প্রয়োজনীয় সামাজিক কাজের পদ্ধতির সাথে সজ্জিত করতে হবে যা মানুষকে তাদের নিজস্ব সমস্যা সমাধানে সহায়তা করার জন্য তার কাজকে সহজ করে।

Methods of Social Work Method

Social Work practice includes a range of direct social work interventions with individuals, families, small groups, communities, policies, establishments and other human service agencies. Farley, Smith and Boyle (2006:7) define social work as “an art, a science, a profession that helps people to solve personal, group (especially family), and community problems and to attain satisfying personal, group, and community relationships through social work practice”. Social work is concerned with helping people in need develop capacities to help themselves. Social work is a scientific profession that takes knowledge from other disciplines to guide its practice. Social workers do not choose what problems and issues they would like to address. They see a problem, even a complicated problem and try to help people solve it. They must prepare themselves to help people with individualised personal problems on the one hand and comprehensive problems that affect whole organizations and communities on the other (Sinokki, 2011).

Being a scientific profession, social work has its own methodology. Traditionally two methods of social work are primary and secondary. Primary methods are social case work, social group work and community organization. Secondary methods are social action, social welfare administration and social work research.

একটি বৈজ্ঞানিক পেশা হওয়ায় সমাজকর্মের নিজস্ব পদ্ধতি রয়েছে। ঐতিহ্যগতভাবে সামাজিক কাজের দুটি পদ্ধতি প্রাথমিক ও মাধ্যমিক। প্রাথমিক পদ্ধতি হল সামাজিক কেস ওয়ার্ক, সোশ্যাল গ্রুপ ওয়ার্ক এবং কমিউনিটি অর্গানাইজেশন। মাধ্যমিক পদ্ধতি হল সামাজিক কর্ম, সমাজকল্যাণ প্রশাসন এবং সমাজকর্ম গবেষণা।
