Marcus has a rare blood condition where iron is produced in his blood in excess of the norm, so he needs to be bled regularly to lower the iron level . The body eventually increases the iron level to the point when he needs to be bled again. And so the cycle continues.

He decided that as he has an abundance of iron is his blood that it would be a good idea to show his iron man status by getting robotic mechanisms tattooed on his arms to coincide with his condition.
