PSSC ended our 2018 season - very windy (22+ knots) and steep waves (current going against the northerly wind) punished us on Saturday. Sunday was far more typical, with winds from 8-12 or so knots, full sun - a great way to end the season. Return handled the Sat weather very well, esp. going downwind wing on wing where she was quite quick (and steady), and was a deserving champion. Grauer had a good Sunday, with 3 firsts in the 5 races, to finish second — Manhattan and Fancy followed, each with at least one second place — Fancy had a halyard issue on Saturday and so missed two races, but she was her normal aggressive self on Sunday.
For the Round-the-Buoys, the combination of light winds and smoke reduced the total number of races this season to 41, the lowest number in a number of years (usually we get in from 46 to 50 races on the Lake). We count each boat’s best 70% of those races, or 29, permitting 12 discards for 2018.. Congratulations to Return and her fine crew, which easily won lowest total points and net points. Return was followed by Grauer Geist, Fancy, Sweet Jesus and T-Bone (the latter two boats only 5 points apart at the end of the season).
This last weekend three Seattle Fleet boats raced in the Lake Fall Regatta. Fancy won the day, with three first places in 5 races. Sweet Jesus came from behind in the last two races to tie Grauer in total points, and with a win in the last race, win the tie-breaker for second. It was good to see a Lake Union boat, Great Escape, to come to the Lake and add to the competition. As three Seattle Fleet boats participated, we count the Lake Fall Regatta in our season Fleet Championships.
Again, congrats to Return for another fine season.
