SJ24 Docking and rafting

Recommendations for docking

  1. Fenders should be deployed and positioned at the proper height well before entering the marina.
  2. The fender height must be adjusted to prevent the hull from contacting the dock, hull or other objects. Typical low dock will require the fenders to almost touch the water.

3. Install a port and starboard rail cleat at the linear rail just below the large window. Insure the pin is securely locked into a mating pin hole. If this cleat is not available, refer to the diagram below for the alternate spring line locations to a winch or other sturdy location.

4. See plan view diagram below for the locations of the fenders and docking lines.

5. Use a cleat hitch or bowline at each cleat. Connect the stern and bow dock lines first.

6. Then install the spring lines next and adjust for some movement of the boat due to wave action.

DO NOT WRAP AROUND OR TIE OFF ANY DOCKING LINE TO THE LIFELINE STANCHION POSTS OR THE UPPER/LOWER WIRE STAYS ON THE BOAT! The shock loads will damage them!

Recommendations for rafting two SJ24 boats

  1. If at a dock, insure the first boat is properly docked as described above.
  2. The two boats must be Bow to Stern with an offset to prevent the Mast Spreaders from hitting each other!
  3. Install 3 or more fenders between the two boat hulls as shown.
  4. Adjust these 3 boat fenders such that the top of the fender is above the black toe rail by several inches.
  5. Between each boat, connect the stern and bow lines first.
  6. Between each boat, then install the spring lines next and adjust for some movement of the boat due to wave action.
  7. The winches may also be used on either boat for connecting the lines.

DO NOT WRAP AROUND OR TIE OFF ANY DOCKING LINE TO THE LIFELINE STANCHION POSTS OR THE UPPER/LOWER WIRE STAYS ON THE BOAT! The shock loads will damage them!
