Jr. Achievement is a comprehensive business and economics program sponsored by the PTA and taught entirely by parent volunteers. Founded in 1919, Junior Achievement is a hands-on, experiential program that teaches the key concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy to young children. Junior Achievement’s vision is to inspire every child to achieve at the “business of life”. Students reach for career and life goals that they may have never dreamed possible when they feel prepared and understand the skills needed in the workforce. Students also learn how education is relevant to the workplace. Taught in Kindergartner through fifth grade, Jr. Achievement volunteers present five lessons each spring (focusing on economics, entrepreneurship, personal finance, citizenship, and workforce/life skills) with sequential activities building on studies from each preceding grade. The goal is to prepare students for secondary school and lifelong learning.
