Graphics

The first area will focus on this semester is Graphics. The knowledge and skills you will learn and practice during these units is necessary in virtually all other types of digital media, so it is a great place to start because we will be using it frequently. We will be covering terminology and vocabulary, the tools and use of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, but also how to create good design using the Element and Principals of Design.

Graphics can take the form of print ads, paintings, logos, photos, icons, and many more different types of designs. No matter what type of career you may have in the future, your business or company will need graphic design in order to be successful. What you will be learning is important information to know and a useful set of skills to have.

The software applications we will be using in class to create graphic designs are Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. These are high-powered, versatile programs that are very common in the real-world, industry setting.

Adobe Illustrator is a software application for creating vector graphics; such as, drawings, illustrations, and artwork using a Windows or MacOS computer. Illustrator was initially released in 1987. Illustrator is widely used by graphic designers, web designers, visual artists, and professional illustrators throughout the world to create high quality artwork. Illustrator includes many sophisticated drawing tools that can reduce the time need to create illustrations.

Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Inc. for Windows or MacOS. It was originally created in 1988. Since then, this software has become the industry standard not only in raster graphics editing, but in digital art as a whole. Photoshop offers users the ability to create, enhance, or otherwise edit images, artwork, and illustrations. Changing backgrounds, simulating a real-life painting, or creating an alternative view of the universe are all possible with Adobe Photoshop.
