Seniors are encouraged to begin the college application process in September of senior year and to submit their complete applications before Thanksgiving.
The school counselors meet with seniors in small groups in October to review colleges of interest, application process, and progress towards meeting high school graduation requirements.
Parents may also schedule an appointment with their student's counselor to discuss this information and any other questions.
College Application Guidelines:
Review the applications for your colleges of interest.
Most colleges require students to submit applications online.
Some may provide paper applications upon request through the Admissions Office.
Determine what is required to complete the application.
If letters of recommendation are needed, allow your sources enough time for thoughtful preparation. Choose people who can attest to your personal character, your academic ability, and your work ethic.
If a personal essay is needed, be sure to have someone review it for you. The College Board also provides helpful tips at https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/get-in/essays.
If you apply online, you must contact the Counseling Office and request that an official transcript be mailed to the college.
Be sure to ask your counselor to complete any additional forms required by the college.
If applying by paper application, send all of your required documents and request a transcript be sent to the college of interest.
