Graduation Requirements
A total of twenty-four (24) units of credit above the eighth grade will be required for graduation. Twenty-one (21) units of credit above the eighth grade are required for students who complete a program through the Penta Career Center or Springfield Transitional Education Program (STEP). Within the total units of credit, the following core courses must be completed:
English: 4.0 credits
Mathematics: 4.0 credits (Including Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2)
Science: 3.0 credits (Includes Physical Science, Biology, advanced science)
Social Studies: 3.0 credits (Includes World & US History 9 & 10, Government, and an additional 1/2 credit course)
Financial Literacy: 0.5 credit
Health: 0.5 credit
*Physical Education: 0.5 credit (alternate options available)
Fine Arts: 1.0 credit
*Elective: 7.5 credits (May include foreign language)
*Please note the following regarding graduation requirements:
Students may elect to complete 2.0 credits of JROTC as a substitute for the Physical Education requirement.
Students may elect to waive the Physical Education requirement by completing two seasons of Marching Band/Flag Corp or two seasons of interscholastic athletics.
A minimum of 2.0 credits of a foreign language is strongly recommended for college preparation.
Students enrolled in a Penta Career Center program are exempted from the Fine Arts course requirements.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS – Class of 2023 and Beyond: long term graduation requirements:
1) Demonstrate Competency: Students must demonstrate competency on the state’s Algebra I and English II tests (Students must earn score a 684 or higher to demonstrate competency).
Students who have taken required tests more than once without passing and have received remedial supports are able to show competency through one of the following options:
Demonstrate career readiness and technical skill through foundational and supporting options; or
Enter into a contract to enlist in the military upon graduation; or
earn remediation free scores on the ACT or SAT; or
Earn credit for one math and/or one English course through College Credit Plus.
2) Preparation for College or Careers: Students must earn two diploma seals, one of which must be state defined, to demonstrate academic, technical and professional readiness for careers, college, the military or self-sustaining professions.
